#GROWTHCOMMISSION

An independent Scotland would have to establish a credible Scottish Central Bank to support a new currency in the long term. The finding was among many contained in Andrew Wilson’s 354-page Growth Commission report released yesterday.

@meljomur pointed out: “If Scotland is so much better off in the UK, why does small, independent Norway have a $1 trillion oil fund, while Scotland has nothing.”

@Roguecoder250 declared: “Bitterly disappointed that the #Growthcommission is recommending using GBP for foreseeable future. Asinine. Complete failure to understand.”

@Indymillennials

commented: “The #Growthcommission report may not be perfect but let’s use this opportunity to be more optimistic and positive in our reasons for Scottish Independence.”

#8THREF

People in Ireland started voting on whether to repeal a part of the country’s constitution, known as the eighth amendment, which effectively bans abortions. Abortion has only been permitted in the republic when a woman’s life was at risk, but not in cases of rape, incest or fatal foetal abnormality.

@cpbrophy posted: “Queue at the polling station at 7am. I love the smell of democracy in the morning.”

@bearaboi added: “Sorry world, but Brexit and everything else can wait. Ireland is all focused on #8thref until further notice.”

@jeancarroll23 said: “I know a child who was born at 24 weeks she fought so hard for her life and survived . She is now 4 years old. To think abortion could be allowed up to this amount of time and longer is frightening.”

#HARVEYWEINSTEIN

Harvey Weinstein has been charged with rape, criminal sex acts, sex abuse and sexual misconduct charges on two women. The movie producer, who has always denied abuse, yesterday turned himself in to New York police over sexual misconduct allegations.

@rosemcgowan declared: “We got you, Harvey Weinstein, we got you.”

@marinafang added: “Once the most powerful man in Hollywood, Harvey Weinstein just turned himself in to police. Pretty unthinkable this would have happened a year ago. Props to the many brave women who spoke out.”
