Tributes paid to man who died in quarry

A man has died after jumping into water at a quarry.

Emergencys­erviceswer­e called to Craigiehil­l Quarry near Kilmarnock at about 8:30pm on Monday after reports that a man had jumped in.

Police said the body of a 28-year-old man, named locally as Mark O’brien, was recovered from the water at about 11:55pm.

Yesterday people took to social media to pay tribute to Mr O’brien.

Carla Mcgill, wrote: “I think I speak for us all when I say the whole of Kilmarnock is absolutely gutted by the news this morning.

“Thoughts are with all the family, can’t even begin to imagine the heartache.”

Sean Hynd wrote: “One of the best boys about, absolute heart of a lion and humble as a king. Love and miss you big time bro absolutely heartbroke­n.”

A post-mortem examinatio­n will be carried out but police said there are no suspicious circumstan­ces.
