Peak performance: Extreme runners brave hostile conditions in Everest marathon
Runners from across the globe braved hostile conditions and freezing temperatures as they took part in the one of the most extreme challenge events on the planet.
The Tenzing-hillary Everest Marathon takes place in the foothills of the world’s highest mountain, in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal.
This year’s event, the 16th to be held, marks the 65th anniversary of the first ever summit of the peak by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary on 29 May 1953.
Participants can chose to run the 60km Extreme Ultra, the 42km Full Marathon or the 21km Half Marathon.
