Viagogo directors may face prosecution
The directors of secondary ticketing site Viagogo could face prosecution or a heft fine after the company was referred to Trading Standards for failing to make changes to misleading pricing information on its website.
The Advertising Standardsauthority( as a) made the referral after finding the firm misled consumers by not being upfront and clear about additional fees that are added at the end of the booking process.
Earlier this month, the competitions watchdog, the Competitions and Markets Authority, said it would take legal action against Viagogo – which Mr Wishart described to MPS as “truly exploitative” – after it failed to agree improvements to protect consumers.
Meanwhile, Westminster Digital Minister Margot James said in a radio interview that if fans had to use a secondary site to buy tickets, “don’t choose Viagogo – they are the worst”.
The ASA said that Viagogo had failed to meet the 29 May deadline it set to make the necessary changes to its website despite having provided assurances that it would do so.
