RBS finance deal struck with Orkney hotel owner

- By SCOTT REID

The Kirkwall Hotel in Orkney is set for a makeover under new ownership, thanks to a £1 million funding deal from Royal Bank of Scotland.

Located on the harbour front, the B-listed building features 38 rooms, a restaurant and bar, as well as business and leisure facilities.

The renovations will take place over the “next few years”, with care taken to preserve the hotel’s Victorian features.

New owner Nick Dent is said to have extensive experience in the hospitality industry, owning three hotels and two bars, in addition to the Kirkwall Hotel.

He said: “We are already looking to expand our busy team, and are confident that the business will go from strength to strength in the coming months.

“I am grateful to Royal Bank of Scotland for the funding and ongoing support of the business. I look forward to being able to update the hotel and help it reach its full potential, offering a luxurious but affordable stay to locals and tourists alike.”
