#DENMARK

Denmark joined some other European countries by yesterday banning garments that cover the face in public, including the niqab or burqa. The decision was passed in a 75-30 vote. @Hannahallam said: “Asked whether it is Danish to deny individuals the right to choose what to wear, [immigration spokesman Martin Henriksen] said it was ‘always Danish to protect Denmark’.” @Sofiehagen continued: “This is the Danish political party that fought for the criminalisation of burkas and niqabs and today they succeeded. It’s a sad day. I know there are good people in Denmark fighting against this. But till we win, I am genuinely heartbroken for Danish muslims.” @ukemaxharraj said: “There are some, unfortunately, in Denmark who still live in the Middle Ages.”

#TARIFFS

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said tariffs would be imposed on European Union, Canadian and Mexican steel and aluminium from today. The protectionist policy aims to crack down on alleged trade abuses. @Elliottrhams quoted: “The benefits of a tariff are visible. Union workers can see they are ‘protected’. The harm which a tariff does is invisible. It’s spread widely. There are people that don’t have jobs because of tariffs but they don’t know it.’ – Milton Friedman.” @kniggem added: “Not sure how slapping steel and aluminium tariffs on key allies like EU, Canada and Mexico enhances US national security, the alleged reason for the measure. There’s a stronger case to be made that alienating your closest allies hurts US national security.” @Kathryncusi tweeted: “If Trump brings down the economy, perhaps the number of supporters he has will go down, too.”

#TOPGUN2

Actor Tom Cruise shared a photo teasing the start of production of the highly anticipated sequel Top Gun: Maverick, due for release next year. @Kabirtaneja posted: “The fact that Top Gun 2 is happening has made me so excited that I am listening to the soundtrack, start to finish now...” @Feyad98 added: “DANGER ZOOONNNEEEEEEEE.” @Lynetterice said: “Yes, in fact, I happen to be VERY excited about this sequel.”
