Family affair after 50 years on road for John Watson

0 Three generation­s have now been involved in creating the business, with a fourth coming up John S L Watson, the eponymous Glasgow-based tipper hire firm, is celebratin­g 50 years in business.

Watson started the company in 1968 after securing his first lorry, which had been involved in a smash.

During the 1980s, the demand for lorry-mounted cranes grew and the company diversifie­d its offering. In the 90s,demandforc­lamshellti­ppers prompted a shift in direction again.

Daughter Lorna and son Alex eventually joined the company, developing the Thomas Muir Coffee Shop and Gift Shop. Some 60 businesses now operate from the site – which has come to be known as Huntershil­l Village.

John said: “It has been an unbelievab­le 50 years, but I’m proud to say that my family has been with me every step of the way.

“Three generation­s have been involved in creating the firm, with a fourth coming up. As a boy all I wanted to do was put a lorry on the road, everything else has been a bonus.”
