Family affair after 50 years on road for John Watson
0 Three generations have now been involved in creating the business, with a fourth coming up John S L Watson, the eponymous Glasgow-based tipper hire firm, is celebrating 50 years in business.
Watson started the company in 1968 after securing his first lorry, which had been involved in a smash.
During the 1980s, the demand for lorry-mounted cranes grew and the company diversified its offering. In the 90s,demandforclamshelltippers prompted a shift in direction again.
Daughter Lorna and son Alex eventually joined the company, developing the Thomas Muir Coffee Shop and Gift Shop. Some 60 businesses now operate from the site – which has come to be known as Huntershill Village.
John said: “It has been an unbelievable 50 years, but I’m proud to say that my family has been with me every step of the way.
“Three generations have been involved in creating the firm, with a fourth coming up. As a boy all I wanted to do was put a lorry on the road, everything else has been a bonus.”
