Father of two killed by hit and run driver

A 33-year-old man has been arrested after a father-of-two was killed by a van near Glasgow.

The dead man, 27-yearold Steven Campbell, suffered multiple injuries after being struck by a white Ford Transit in a suspected hit-and-run.

Mr Campbell was walking with another man and a woman on Burnhill Street in Rutherglen shortly before 2am on Saturday when he was hit.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but later died.

Police said that they were treating the incident as murder.

Mr Campbell’s companions were not injured.

Detectives investigat­ing the incident have renewed their appeal for informatio­n about the van, which they said may have been damaged as it struck Mr Campbell.

Floral tributes were left at the scene.

Mourners also took to social media to post comments about Mr Campbell.

One poster said: “Rest in Peace Stevie Campbell, you were a good friend to most of my family and to the majority of the scheme.

“The place won’t be the same without you.”

Another tribute read: “Can’t believe another young one gone rip Stevie Campbell. GBNF fly high.”
