Something fishy?

-

The seemingly commercial decision by Young’s Seafood to close its Annan plant with the loss of 450 jobs is not as simply commercial as it first seemed.

The UK government gave Young’s a £1.35 million grant to concentrate their resources in Grimsby. This follows the recent reduction of the plant in Fraserburgh from 1,000 jobs to 200, and again the Grimsby plant expanded with a UK government grant.

I wonder what David Mundell, the Scottish Secretary, has to say about his Westminster colleagues removing 1,250 Scottish jobs to Grimsby by paying Young’s to do so?

As far as I can see, he has said nothing apart from a bit of useless hand-wringing about how tragic it all is. “Nothing to do with me, Guv.”
