Two-thirds say men and women have equality

- By LYNSEY BEWS

Less than two-thirds of Scots believe men and women have equal opportunities to fulfil their potential, new research has found.

The findings also suggest women feel less confident than men in calling out gender inequality in everyday situations.

The study, commissioned by the First Minister’s National Advisory Council for Women and Girls (NACWG), revealed the imbalance as the #Generationequal movement was launched, aimed at championing equality for all and helping to shape policy recommendations for the Scottish Government.

The research was gathered in a survey of 1,123 people - including 596 women and 527 men - last month.

It found that, overall, 60 per cent of people feel there are equal opportunities for both sexes, with the figure increasing to 67 per cent among men.
