The number of nurses leaving the NHS in Scotland has reached a new high, prompting fears of a “staffing crisis” in hospitals. The news followed reports that nine out of 10 people were seen within four hours at Scotland’s A&E department­s during April, falling short of the government’s own target of 95 per cent. @scottishla­bour tweeted: “More than 500 operations were cancelled in April because our hospitals can’t cope. It’s time for SNP Health Secretary Shona Robison to go.” @Bettertosl­ever retorted: “Let’s see how well Labour are doing managing NHS Wales. Oh dear, it’s the worst performanc­e on record. Best to sort out your own NHS before condemning NHS Scotland the best NHS in the UK.” @Frankalba2 replied to the news, writing: “It’s because all the EU doctors and nurses are leaving.”

The Cabinet has approved the building of a third runway at Heathrow Airport, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling told the House of Commons. Labour Peer @Andrew_ Adonis tweeted: “While Cabinet decides whether to retake Heathrow 3rd runway decision Gordon Brown & I took 9 years ago, Frankfurt & Paris Charles de Gaulle have 4 runways each, Amsterdam Schipol has 6 runways, & Dubai building wholly new internatio­nal airport. Welcome to ‘Global Britain’ ” @Duncanweld­on joked: “Every time the Heathrow decision has been delayed, Schiphol has sent them a cake. This is high level trolling.”
