Kit change puts England in the red for Scots clash

- By DAVID CLOUGH

England’s one-day international team will be wearing an unfamiliar red kit for this weekend’s match against Scotland in Edinburgh.

To avoid a clash of colours, in line with ICC policy for any televised white-ball international match, England cannot wear their usual blue kit against hosts who will don their traditional ODI navy.

England will take the field in their red Twenty20 international shirts on Sunday, before reverting to ODI blue against Australia in the fivematch Royal London Series which begins at The Oval on 13 June.

Meanwhile, England have called up Jake Ball as cover for the injured Chris Woakes in their squad to face Australia.

All-rounder Woakes joined Ben Stokes on the injury sidelines after suffering a thigh strain in England’s victory over Pakistan in the second Natwest Test at Headingley. Both will be unavailable for the Scotland clash and, according to an England and Wales Cricket Board statement, the “first part” of the five-match series against Australia.

Ball, pictured, is back after playing the last of his 17 ODIS to date at Perth in January in the 4-1 series win over Australia.

The ECB statement read: “Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball has been drafted into England’s ODI squad for the Royal London series against Australia as cover for all-rounder Chris Woakes.

“Woakes, who will be unavailable for the first part of the series with a right quad strain, joins Ben Stokes (left hamstring tear) on the injured list. Both playershavecommencedtheir injury rehab programmes and will be hoping to respond to treatment with the aim of featuring in the latter stages of the series.”
