Edwards eyes cup success and caps in Hearts move

-

Ryan Edwards is targeting cup success with Hearts after they snapped him up on a free transfer from Partick Thistle.

The Australian has agreed to join the Edinburgh club after being part of the Thistle side that suffered relegation to the Scottish Championship following the play-off against Livingston.

Edwards spent three seasons at Firhill, making over 100 appearances and scoring eight goals in all competitions – with five of those coming this campaign.

He is the seventh player to be added by manager Craig Levein since the end of the season and Edwards hopes his arrival can help push Hearts further up the table and boost his international hopes.

“I have sat down one-on-one with the manager and had a good chat about what he expects from me and the team going forward,” he told Hearts TV. “The ambition is there on a personal level for me to be in a team that is going to challenge for cups and challenge at the top end of the table, and try to get into Europe next season.

“On a personal level, it [the move] could be really important for me to get into the national team, which is something I want to make happen and have been close previously. It was a disappointing time last season to finish with relegation at Thistle but I’m really grateful for Hearts and to the manager for giving me the opportunity to play for Hearts and be here now.”

0 Ryan Edwards: Opportunity.
