Taking it to the wire: Dancer wears Caribbean carnival mask at the Glasgow Tramway

Artist and dancer, Ashanti Harris in costume from her performance Emi Ori Cse. She is wearing a wire screen mask based on a traditional West Indian Carnival costume. The tradition comes from Austrian wire screen carnival masks which were brought to the Caribbean by Europeans, combined with the tradition of mesh Shields used to protect the inner head (the soul) in Yoruba belief.
