They should make the building into student flats or a hotel. Can’t have too many.

Paul Sutherland I think we could do with a few more artisan bakeries and coffee shops.

Bye bye Binns.

John Coulthard Sadly Binns was well and truly stuffed after House of Fraser took over.

Ken Johnston What I don’t understand about all these shops closing is what knock on effect does it have on all the coffee shops etc? Folk would come into town to go to big shops then go for lunch or coffees. Are they just going to meet on phones now? Folk are becoming hermits – shop online, chat online, stream

David Blake Sad to see it go, but it’s a sign of the times. Who wants to traipse round huge shops when you can easily buy stuff online.

Morag Gray Time looks to be up for all the big retailers as one by one they go. Not just Edinburgh or Scotland – l can see the whole of the UK in the future with market stalls just like Third World countries.

Peter Anderson Princes Street is not the same any more. I preferred it years ago with C&A, Woolworths etc .... OK as long as they keep the clock as a meeting point.

Witold Miedzybrodzki Nothing to be proud of when the lowest earners can’t afford the cheapest slums in the same city.

Steff Miller Only £1m. That’ll be what Edinburgh calls affordable housing.

Ken Johnston Look at Stockbridge, it’s Englandshire, and they brought up the prices of houses there. Why not debate this . . . There are 4,000 fewer teachers than at the start of the decade, 11 per cent fewer support staff, 30 per cent fewer music instructors and, particularly shamefully, 13 per cent fewer additional-supportneeds
