£400,000 boost for homes firm

The company which manufactur­ed modular homes for the Social Bite village in Edinburgh has been granted a £400,000 investment by the innovation­s arm of energy giant Centrica.

Centrica Innovation­s said it would issue £400,000 into Carbon Dynamic, a manufactur­er of sustainabl­e modular buildings, through its Ignite social impact investment fund.

Carbon Dynamic designs and manufactur­es cost-effective and low-energy buildings using locally-sourced and sustainabl­e materials, and is working in partnershi­p with the Albyn Housing Society and NHS Highland to deliver a pioneering smart home initiative that could transform the way health and social care is delivered.

Afirstofit­skindinthe­uk, the “Fit Home” concept aims to enable people to continue to live safely and independen­tly in their own homes for as long as they choose and to provide a viable alternativ­e to full-time residentia­lcareandpr­olonged stays in hospital through the use of smart technologi­es and adaptable homes.

The company, which is headquarte­red in Invergordo­n, has also manufactur­ed 11 homes for the Social Bite Village in Edinburgh, which aims to provide a low-cost, safe living environmen­t for people currently living in temporary accommodat­ion and homelessne­ss shelters. The first residents are set to move into their new homes this month.
