Brexit conundrum
I do hope Joyce Mcmillan’s article (‘The folly of the British Establishment’, Scotsman, 8 June) is widely read, given it is drawing attention to “a very British post-imperial system of government, immensely confident of its ability . . . to suppress unwanted truths.”
If the Labour Party continues with its shambolic Brexit strategy “for fear of upsetting those Gods of traditional British nationalism” I shall cancel my membership.
Where I then turn to, I have no idea – the alternative of Scottish independence being as fraught with potential disaster as Brexit.

Joyce Mcmillan’s work is always stimulating, so it is with some regret I have to take issue with her in respect of her 8 June article. She does seem to suffer from a severe case of disconnect.
While pouring scorn on the drive by ardent Brexiteers to cut Britain loose from Europe whatever the cost, she does not seem to recognise the folly of the SNP in seeking an identical outcome.
There is a common principle here and it seems to me at least that it is doubly important that Scotland remains in the Union following the UK’S regrettable disentanglement from the EU.
