‘The bluff, heave and hill-side of Arthur’s Seat’: A Poetry Hike

Meet at Scottish Poetry Library, today, 12:30pm, £8 (£6 concession­s) Join poet Yvonne Reddick for a hike through Holyrood Park and up Arthur’s Seat. She’ll read poems by writers known for their love of walking and work with a link to the local area. She’ll also explore how Scottish poets such as Alec Finlay and Kathleen Jamie celebrate the natural world. After the walk, you can join a creative writing session on how to use experience­s to write about nature and place.

Poems for Grenfell

Scottish Poetry Library, 23 June, 2pm, free One year after the Grenfell Tower fire, poets from the UK and around the world have responded by creating and contributi­ng to a fundraisin­g anthology, and at this event Scottish contributo­rs read their poems about the tragedy. They will be joined by Rip Bulkeley, editor of the book, who will talk about the genesis of the project. The anthology will be on sale at the event, with all profits going to the Grenfell Foundation.

Frank Baez

Scottish Poetry Library, 26 June 7pm, £8 (£6 concession­s) Frank Baez is the Dominican Republic’s most important young poet and short story writer. His work, which is published across the Spanish-speaking world, has been described as a combinatio­n of “fiery rhetoric, pop-cultural connoisseu­rship, and crackling street smarts”. At this rare UK appearance support is provided by Juana Adcock.
