Protests in Vietnam over new zones
Protests have broken out in Vietnam against plans for new economic zones, fuelled by fears that Chinese investors will dominate the areas.
According to police reports, more than a dozen people were detained in the capital Hanoi and demonstratÂions stopped in other cities.
Last year the government proposed a law that would give foreign investors a 99-year lease on Vietnamese land in an bid to promote growth in target areas. The protesters fear the communist government will award Chinese investors leases across the north-east, south-east and south-west of the country.
DemonstratÂors are also against a cyber security bill, scheduled for a vote on 12 June. Human Rights Watch say it would give the government broad powers quash dissent online.
