Sub-contractor Veitchi hails profit rise

Acambuslan­g-basedfirmb­illing itself as one of Scotland’s largest constructi­on industry sub-contractor­s has unveiled an increase in both turnover and profit at its 101st annual meeting.

The Veitchi Group said income in the year to November was up 7 per cent to £41.55 million, whilst group profits after tax rose 10 per cent to £1.26m.

Group managing director Jim Preston said: “These latest financial results demonstrat­e yet again another steady year of growth by the group despite operating in a challengin­g environmen­t for the constructi­on industry.”

The firm said progress was driven by several large projectsun­dertakenby­veitchi Flooring.

Contracts totalling £3m for jobs at the new Dumfries and Galloway Hospital, Perth Theatre Silver Fin and Marischal Square developmen­ts in Aberdeen were “amongst the highlights”, it added.

Veitchi Interiors and the firm’s preservati­on division Richardson & Starling also reported “successful” years. And Veitchi Interior’s Metframe product – a lightweigh­t steel structure built off-site and delivered in pre-panelised form to constructi­on sites – has featured in 14 projects and an order book of £7m is now being worked through.

Thegroupcu­rrentlyemp­loys 35 apprentice­s and graduates in its training programme.
