#POUNDWORLD
Around 5,000 jobs are at risk as discount retailer Poundworld confirmed that it is to appoint administrators as it seeks to avoid collapse. 355 stores are threatened with closure. @Paulbluedotben wrote: “If a store like Poundland is going under, something tells me the economy isn’t overly strong and stable. Interesting times ahead.” @Ianhowgate posted: “To be expected. The more we look online for bargains & the ease of home delivery the more the high street will suffer.” @Marchantk agreed: “Saddened to see the destruction of the high street, but this is the obvious result of the pound shop wars, often going opposite each other, it’s a guaranteed race to the bottom.” @Paulieplayspop added: “Collapse of House of Fraser, Toys R Us, Maplins, Poundworld. Store closures for M&S, New Look, Mothercare. UK high street is being decimated. Can anyone tell me if the same is happening across Europe?” @Garyrovner recalled: “Having worked for them with the management they have I can understand why they’re in so much trouble. Not professional, can’t communicate and don’t give a stuff about shop floor level staff. ”
#TRUMPKIMSUMMIT
One of the most bizarre diplomatic developments in recent history will conclude today as US president Donald Trump meets North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. @Bro_pair remarked: “I don’t care about anything but obtaining a future in which Kim Jong Un visits Mar A Lago. I need the weirdest event in history to happen at any cost.” @Davidjollyfl wrote: “For context ahead of the Trumpkim Summit, consider the US President is legitimising a dictator who executes his political opponents.” @Dcpoll claimed: “Trump is neither a dealmaker nor a negotiator. He’s a selfish, petty, ill-tempered bully, lacking in intellect, maturity & self-control. Trump’s meeting with Kim Jong Un is nothing but a campaign photo op.” @Ilangoldberg agreed: “I am for diplomacy. I am not against Trump meeting Kim Jong Un. I am against Trump meeting with Kim Jong Un after walking away from our closest allies, trashing the Iran Deal, and refusing to prepare at all for this summit.”
