Dons release Peruvian kid Macpherson

Aberdeen have released Peruvian under-20 defender Joe Macpherson from their development squad, with former Stoke City full-back Toby Wells joining Daniel Harvie in also departing Pittodrie.

Macpherson was born in Lima, the capital of Peru, and lived in the South American country with his Scottish father and Peruvian mother until he was seven. He had been capped at under-16 and under-17 level by Scotland but received a call-up from Peru last autumn and was then fast-tracked into their under-20 squad earlier this year.

The 17-year-old played for the Dons in the Scottish FA Youth Cup final in May against Hibs, but he has not been offered a new deal by the Pittodrie club.
