A world of discovery awaits in Monifieth

The town is well placed to make the most of its location, finds Kirsty Mcluckie

For city workers in Dundee, the small town of Monifieth is a convenient location to set up home. The commuter hotspot is next to Broughty Ferry on the north bank of the River Tay and within easy driving distance of the city, with good access to the key commuter route, the A92.

The town is part of an excellent local bus network and for those travelling to work in the south or further afield, Dundee airport offers a convenient daily commuter service to London Stansted.

Today Monifieth is noted as a golfing centre, with its links course being used as a qualifier for the British Open Championship, while Carnoustie, home of this year’s Open, is just a few miles away.

There are good amenities in both Monifieth itself and the surrounding towns.

A mix of primary and secondary schools offers a wide choice for families. There is a lot going on in and around the location, particularly at the moment.

In one direction you have the City of Discovery, soon to become home to Scotland’s first design museum when the spectacular V&A Dundee, designed by Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma, opens in September.

Monifieth also has easy access to the countryside of Angus, with some of Scotland’s most picturesque spots on its doorstep.

Monifieth’s glorious sandy beach and country parks add to its attractions and make it a popular spot for relocation, particularly for families looking for space and to move out of the city.

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has launched two showhomes in the area which firmly cater to this sector of the market.

The Stewart and the Geddes, both detached with four bedrooms, have recently opened at the firm’s Victoria Grange development just outside Monifieth.

The Stewart, the larger of the two, has a contemporary monochrome theme to its interior design, highlighted with teal blue accent touches throughout.

Next door, the Geddes offers great flow between the lounge, dining room and kitchen area, ideal for keeping an eye on younger children.

The kitchen and dining room both have double French doors leading into the rear garden, so it is an ideal house for summer.

Victoria Grange offers two, three, four and five-bedroomed house styles to appeal to a wide range of buyers, with prices starting from £258,000 for the Fairbairn four-bedroomed detached.

Taylor Wimpey is highlighting the advantages of new versus old homes. Karen Armstrong, sales and marketing director for the company, says: “Buying new means having no upward property chain for buyers to worry about.

“When customers move into their property, everything is new and untouched by any previous owners.

“There are no time-consuming and expensive repairs or renovations to deal with and with energy efficient central heating, double-glazing and modern insulation fitted as standard, customers can also save money on their fuel bills.”

She adds: “Buying a new home offers many great benefits and our showhomes at Victoria Grange give prospective buyers an insight into the style, quality and craftsmanship they can expect.”

The showhomes and sales information centre for Victoria Grange are open Monday to Sunday. For more information call 01382 721 475.
