#BREXIT

Ruth Davidson has told farmers she is “pressing the case” on the need to respect Scotland’s distinct needs after Brexit. The Scottish Tory leader was addressing the National Farmers Union Scotland at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.

@Garethbquinn said: “If Ruth Davidson is so passionate about payments due to farmers, she should maybe call up her pal Michael Gove & echo SNP calls for the Tories to finally pay Scottish farmers the £160m they’re owed in convergence uplift funding which was never delivered.”

@Freethinker2030 added: “Time that Scotland’s farmers realised that the Ruth Davidson & Tories are ‘shafting’ them too!”

@Jamesross530 wrote: “@Ruthdavidsonmsp totally unchallenged on the funding for Scottish hill farmers which was retained by Michael Gove, the man she is so close to! Yet she has the audacity to claim she’s sticking up for farmers!”

#HOUSEOFFRASER

House of Fraser has been given the green light by creditors to axe over half of its store estate, resulting in up to 6,000 job losses.

@Jamesross530 stated: “Whilst the UK Gov has been focused on Brexit we’ve seen Toysrus, Maplin, Poundland, Newlook and now House of Fraser close hundreds of branches with the loss of thousands of jobs. The country is a mess and Scotland should want out!”

@squeezyjohn quipped: “Despite the World Cup being on, I see that Airbus, House of Fraser and Nigel Farage are trending... I can only assume that the UK economy is doing really well because the Tories told me ... what’s the story? More stores? More jobs?”

#SINGLEMARKET

Scottish and Welsh First ministers Nicola Sturgeon and Carwyn Jones have called on the Prime Minister to think again about pulling the UK out of the single market and customs union.

@Alankeane19 said: “[Sturgeon] obviously doesn’t value single markets. The UK single market is worth four times to Scotland than the EU single market yet she is desperate to drag us out of the UK.”

@001harry added: “Let me see, SNP want UK to sacrifice and reverse its 17.4 million democratic Brexit result to suit a political party that already has its own devolved powers and who by description want to leave the UK anyway...”
