A true democrat

-

Regarding the difficulties besetting the Prime Minister, James Macintyre (Letters, 11 June) may have a point. Yet, we must not forget, Theresa May voted Remain, as I did, in the Brexit referendum. She would not have liked the result. However, she is demonstrably a democrat and painful as it probably was for her, as UK Prime Minister she accepted the result. With courage and dignity, and under severe pressure, she has tried her best to implement the wishes of the majority of the people of the UK.

The comparisons with the First Minister of Scotland are startling. She also lost a referendum but since the day following the result Nicola Sturgeon has strived remorselessly to overturn the decision of the majority in Scotland and drag our country out of the UK.

One a democrat, the other an opportunistic obsessive, the contrast is stark. The political opinions and views of the Prime Minister need not be condoned to appreciate her honesty and integrity.
