More than £14,000 has been raised by an auction of treasures from a famous theatre as it prepares to close for refurbishment.

A collection of 40,000 backstage memorabilia items from the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow sold for £14,400.

The sale of 72 years worth of props and costumes bettered the theatre’s fundraising goal of £10,000. The auction attracted 750 buyers.

The proceeds will go towards redevelopment work at the theatre as it closes its doors for two years for a £19.4m refurbishment.
