PWC among organisations behind six-figure charity boost

- By EMMA NEWLANDS

A social enterprise aiming to tackle poor mental health in Edinburgh has secured sixfigure funding from the likes of Aberdeen Standard Investments and PWC that will go towards opening a permanent base.

Projekt 42 has netted £125,000, which will help it put down roots on Halmyre Street, Leith, later this year after operating out of a temporary space in Newkirkgate.

The sum will go towards opening a community gym and wellness centre, which will focus on improving the mental wellbeing of those in the local community through a range of services.

These include fitness classes, mindfulness activities, life coaching, nutrition workshops, yoga, and counselling.

The money has come from a range of organisations, including £90,000 from the Big Lottery Community Assets alone, and Foundation Scotland. Other key investors include Bonnington Micro Trust (£14,000) and Leith Chooses (£10,000).

Additionally, Edinburghbased developer Buccleuch Property is providing probono support for the project, uniting local building experts, engineers and architects to provide advice and assistance.

Sara Hawkins, founder of Projekt 42, set up the not-forprofit community gym after being diagnosed with PTSD in 2012. She commented: “I’m looking forward to starting the next chapter at Halmyre Street very soon.”
