Kezia Dugdale has revealed that the money she made from I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! helped her buy a flat.

The former Scottish Labour Party leader took an unauthorised leave of absence to appear on the ITV reality series last year.

In one Bushtucker Trial she had to crawl through a tank of fish guts dubbed “Sickola Sturgeon”.

She also had to drink blended bull penis and liquidised pig and ostrich anus.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland’s Stark Talk, broadcast yesterday, Ms Dugdale said she was an “attention seeker” and that she had agreed to go on the show partly for the money, which included a £70,000 fee.

She said that while she had used some of the money to purchase a flat, and around £7,500 had gone to charity, she was still unable to reveal exactly how much she made after tax.

She said: “The reason I can’t be 100 per cent specific about that is because I earned it a bit in Australia and a bit in the UK, and I’m still resolving, making sure I’ve paid the taxes on all of the right bits.

“I’m literally still trying to make sure I’ve discharged all my responsibilities around tax in both countries at the moment.

“I did make a substantial amount, there’s no hiding away from that – money that’s allowed me to buy a flat.

“I was under no illusion that it would be controversial and that it would leave me forever sort of categorised as a reality TV wannabe”
