Mactaggart & Mickel makes further inroads into market south of Border
0 Ed Monaghan: ‘expansion plans progressing well’ Scottish housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel has made a further push south of the Border after acquiring two development sites in Oxfordshire. The firm, which has been building homes in Scotland since 1925, has snapped up sites in the historic villages of Marcham, near Abingdon, and East Hagbourne, close to Didcot.
Mactaggart & Mickel – often referred to as Macmic – received planning permission for its first English development last August, at Milton under Wychwood in West Oxfordshire.
Work is now “well under way” on a development of 62 homes there, and the firm is also about to begin on 38 homes at East Challow, also in Oxfordshire.
The Glasgow-headquartered group has been involved in strategic land development in England since 2008, securing more than 1,200 acres across the north west and south west of England. On the back of its expansion plans, the firm recently opened an office in Cheltenham, resulting in the creation of about 20 full-time jobs, with plans to take on more staff as growth continues.
Ed Monaghan, chairman of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes England, said: “It has been fantastic to see our English expansion plans progressing so well, with one development already on site, another about to begin, and now the acquisition of two further sites in popular Oxfordshire, one of which already has planning consent in place.”
He added: “We will also work with local suppliers to deliver quality new homes on these sites, contributing further to the Oxfordshire economy.”
Mactaggart & Mickel Homes currently employs about 280 members of staff across the UK and anticipates this will rise over the coming year.
