Hopes of Andy Murray’s much-anticipated Grand Slam return were dashed on Sunday as it was announced that he was to pull out of this year’s Wimbledon tournament to allow him more time to recover from hip surgery. Fans were, understandably, gutted. @Alisonharriso16 said: “Gutted. Never the same without him but Too much too soon. Wise decision.” @Purrfect1973 said: “Best wishes to @andy_murray on a full recovery. Tennis is not the same without you. As an orthopedic nurse, please take your time recovering. I look forward to watching you win your next grandslam!!” @Happycelticlass said: “I know @andy_murray will be disappointed he can’t play in Wimbledon, but sounds like he was listening to his body and has made the best decision for his long-term future. It’s just great to see him back.” @knittingquark said: “Genuinely relieved that Andy Murray has withdrawn from Wimbledon. His tennis is still spectacular but he clearly needs the extra recovery time. Much better to take the time to heal now than push through it and make the condition worse.” @Samlmowat said: “Disappointed as I can’t imagine Wimbledon without Andy in it. But wish him all the best in his recovery and hope to see him play in 2019.” But @Duncanfuller quipped: “Good work from Andy Murray. Nobody wants to be working when the knockout stages of the World Cup are on.”
