Cave rescue for injured boy

- By DIANE KING

An injured schoolboy has been rescued from a cave in the Highlands by emergency crews.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and a Coastguard helicopter crew were involved in the operation to remove a nine-year-old boy who was hurt during a caving expedition at Loch Duntelchai, around 11 miles from Inverness.

Mountain rescue operators posted images of the rescue attempt on their social media pages late on Monday afternoon.

It is thought the rescue was made difficult for crews due to restricted space in the area surrounding the cave.

The team posted: “Today’s callout was probably our first cave rescue. Problem was he was in a tight little cave, and needed to be packaged then passed through an even tighter passage to emerge on an isolated ledge, from which he could then be airlifted.”
