#ALANLONGMUIR

Bay City Roller founder Alan Longmuir died yesterday after a short illness and fans were understandably sad and nostalgic. @Martinknight tweeted: “So very sad to hear that Alan Longmuir has died this am. We were just finishing a book together which he was so looking forward to. He was a lovely, modest man who was adored by those who knew him & so many who didn’t.” @Dollymopp added: “I saw Bay City Rollers when I was 8, my mum made me a tartan banner with all their names on it, I was thrilled. My first proper ‘gig’. Alan Longmuir was prob my first crush.” @Caledoniankitty said: “R.I.P Alan Longmuir founder of the Scottish boy band Bay City Rollers, who took the world by storm in the 70s, helped make tartan fashionable & put Scotland on the map.”

#SCOTSCORCHIO

Scots have been enjoying the blazing temperatures. @Squirmypopple commented: “My smart meter is warning me that it’s too hot in my flat. I could have told you that, you useless robot.” @jroddiephoto tweeted: “’Another 10 days to a fortnight of fine warm weather, with conditions extremely ‘tinder dry underfoot’. This is the longest spell of hot summer weather I’ve seen in a decade in the Highlands.” @erikpaterson added: “’Stop complaining that it’s hot.’ No. Actual buildings are actually melting. Buildings. Melting.’”

#ANDYMURRAY

Andy Murray has withdrawn from Wimbledon as he continues his recovery from hip surgery. The two-time champion had been due to play Benoit Paire in the first round today. @Therealpatcash said: “Andy Murray sensible to be conservative with any injury, let alone a hip on fresh grass courts. I know only too well about making comebacks and this is a smart decision!” @blakemillfash reacted: “We’re so sad to hear #Andymurray has pulled out of #Wimbledon. The man is a true British individual, and we’re hoping he has the fastest possible recovery. Best of luck Andy!” @mistermemoryman tweeted: “#Andymurray should retire. He is unlikely to climb back up the world ranking table because he will always be up against younger and better players making it virtually impossible to progress.”
