Celtic have had a reported initial bid for John Mcginn rejected by Hibernian.

It is understood that Scottish champions have offered around £1.5 million for the international midfielder who has entered the final year of his contract.

Mcginn, 23, returned to training with Hibs last week after being given extra time off following his participation in Scotland’s summer tour to Peru and Mexico. He was the subject of reported interest from English Championship sides Derby County and Birmingham City last month, with a fee of £3m mentioned.

Celtic are looking to strengthen in midfield following the sale of Stuart Armstrong to Southampton for £7m.

Speaking in March, Hibs manager Neil Lennon valued Mcginn at £5m.

“He has a price,” Lennon said. “I think in this day and age £5m would cover it. I value him very highly as well all do here, and we won’t sell ourselves short if the bids come if for him.”

Hibs have already lost Dylan Mcgeouch, with the out-ofcontract midfielder joining Sunderland yesterday.

Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan has joined Hibernian on a season-long loan deal but the Easter Road club have lost midfielder Dylan Mcgeouch to Sunderland.

Bogdan’s move has been completed ahead of Hibs’ Europa League clash with NSI Runavik on 12 July.

The 30-year-old Hungarian has made six first-team appearances for Liverpool and had a loan spell at Wigan in 2016, but has not played a competitive game since November of that year.

He will provide competition for Ofir Marciano, who has been struggling with a finger injury and is currently a doubt for the Edinburgh club’s European opener, after Cammy Bell left Easter Road at the end of the season.

Bogdan will be reunited with Neil Lennon in Leith, with the pair previously working together at Bolton and the Hungary international is looking forward to continuing the good work of his new manager.

“The club is in a good position at the moment after a strong few seasons and it is important to build on what has been achieved, which was instantly attractive to me, as well as working with Neil Lennon once again,” he told the club website.

“There is good competition for goalkeeping positions here, so I am prepared to work hard to ensure that I can have a good season and help the team as best I can.”

Lennon added: “Adam is a very experienced and dependable goalkeeper and one I am pleased to have brought into the club ahead of the season getting started.

“Having previously worked with him at Bolton I know that we are bringing in a quality player with experience playing at a high standard, including representing his country.”

Scotland international Mcgeouch, meanwhile, has completed a move to Sunderland on a free transfer. The 25-year-old midfielder was out of contract having turned down the offer of a new deal at Hibs.

Mcgeouch forced his way into the Scotland set-up with a series of impressive performances for Hibs in their first campaign back in the Ladbrokes Premiership, and was linked with a move to rangers at the end of last season.

He is the second signing from Scotland to join up with new boss Jack Ross at the Stadium of Light after Jon Mclaughlin, another recent cap for his country, joined on a free from Hearts.

Ross said: “Dylan has been really good for Hibernian and that’s culminated in him earning international recognition.

“There were a lot of teams interested in him because he’s at a good stage in his career and he’s absolutely desperate to come down to England and show people how good a player he is. The fans will like him because he’s got a lot of quality.”
