A £100 million planning application has been submitted for a residential and commercial development that aims to breathe new life into a longneglected gap site on the banks of the River Clyde.
Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet is aiming to be a “major leisure attraction” in the city, comprising flats, shops, student accommodation, and a cinema on the site of the former Meadowside shipyard, close to the Riverside Museum in the west end.
The 350,000 square foot space in the Partick district has lain empty for decades but developer Peel Lifestyle Outlets, a division of Manchesterbased Peel Land and Property Group, has now submitted a planning application to Glasgow City Council.
The Peel Group said the development will take its investment in Scotland past the £1 billion mark and deliver a new waterfront destination on the Clyde along with thousands of associated retail and construction jobs, “making Glasgow a city on the river not by the river”.

STEVEN UNDERWOOD the business’ ongoing Glasgow Harbour development, which began over a decade ago with the construction of 1,100 flats on the site of the former Meadowside Granary on the Clyde, which was demolished in 2001.
The projected completion date for the £100m project is 2021, and planning permission in principal was granted in 2008 to rejuvenate the site, which was once owned by the Belfast shipbuilding giant Harland & Wolff.
