GLENDALE TIPS

- By GORDON BROWN

Ventureknightwasanimpressive winner of the Almada Mile Handicap at Hamilton Park yesterday.

Ridden by P J Mcdonald and trained by Mark Johnston, the 9-2 chance slammed 9-4 favourite Balestra by a comfortable two and a half lengths.

Speaking after saddling his 121st winner of the year, Johnston said: “He has won very well and is a nice three-yearold. P J won on him at Doncaster this year and last year and he should stay a bit further.”

Mcdonald had earlier initiated a near 11-1 double when Brexit Time, a rare David Evans-trained raider, produced a decent performance in the racinguk.com Confined Novice Stakes.

The winning jockey said: “He didn’t handle the hill very well but he really picked up for me and was well on top at the line.”

Tommy G, trained and bred by Jim Goldie, bids to follow up a recent strike at Ayr when he runs at Musselburgh today.

The Uplawmoor raider is one of the eight declared for the Ray Hawthorne Memorial Supporting Racing Staff Week Handicap.

Goldie said: “He’s a horse we’ve always rated quite highly and it was nice to see him wining again at Ayr. That win was over six furlongs but his other win came at this trip of seven furlongs so there isn’t a worry over distance or ground.”

Among the rivals to Tommy G is top-weight Mujassam, who won at Hamilton Park last week for in-form Yorkshire trainer David O’meara.
