PM rejects SNP claims that £ 319,000 in donations from trust are ‘ dodgy’

- By PARIS GOURTSOYANNIS

The Prime Minister has come under pressure following claims that a trust was used to conceal the source of donations to the Scottish Conservatives.

Theresa May insisted all donations to the Tories are “accepted and declared in accordance with the law” in response to questions from the SNP’S Westminster leader Ian Black ford about the Scottish Unionist Association Trust ( SUAT).

The organisation has donated more than £ 319,000 to various Scottish Tor y candidates and campaigns over the past 17 years. Following yesterday’s PMQS, it published a full list of its trustees and said it was co- operating with an investigation by the Electoral Commission.

Under current rules, unincorporated associations are not required to register and declare where they receive their money from, provided they donate less than £ 25,000 per calendar year to political parties and candidates.

“The Prime Minister cannot dismiss the scandal that the Scottish Tories have found themselves in regarding these dodgy donations,” Mr Blackford said.
