Anderson to return for Lancashire second XI
James Anderson is set to return from injury in a specially-arranged threeday match for Lancashire second XI as he seeks to prove his fitness for the start of the Test series against India next month.
England’ s all-time leading wicket-taker has been out of action since t he Test win over Pakistan at Headingley because of along-standin gin jury to his bowling shoulder.
The 35- year- old is due back for the th ree-day second XI fixture against Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford on 15 July, however, and then pencilled in too to face Yorkshire on the same ground in the Specsavers Count y Championship on 22 July.
Lanc ash ire’s second XI championship match was originally scheduled to take place on 31 July in Liverpool but has been brought forward to aid Anderson’s comeback.
The five- Test series against India begins at Edgbaston on 1 August.
The England and Wales Cricket Board announced a brief update on Anderson’ s plans yesterday. It read: “England seamer Jimmy Anderson will make his return to competitive cricket for Lancashire second XI in a three- day match against Nottinghamshire at Emirates Old Trafford star ting on 15 July.
“Anderson, who has not played since the second Test victory over Pakistan on 3 June, has spent the past month rehabilitating along-standing right shoulder injury and returned to bowling working with Lancashire and England staff in the past seven days.
“As par t of his plan, before the first Spec savers Test against India starting on 1 August, he will play for Lancashire seconds against Nottinghamshire and the Roses match in the Spec savers County Championship Division One match against Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford starting on 22 July.”
