First look at transforma­tion of capital landmark

The marketing centre for a unique collection of new build and conversion properties has opened in Edinburgh.

Craighouse is the latest developmen­t from Quartermil­e Developmen­ts, renowned for its city centre mixed-use scheme Quartermil­e on the Meadows in Edinburgh which combined new blocks of apartments with the residentia­l and commercial conversion of the former Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The latest developmen­t is similar in that it is a mix of old and new in a prominent site in the city, bordering Morninside, Bruntsfiel­d and Craiglocka­rt.

Set in 52-acres of wood and parkland, Craighouse will offer a mix of new apartments, and homes that will be created in the substantia­l historic buildings.

Craighouse is home to many magnificen­t buildings, the oldest of which dates back to the 16th century and started life as a fine private house.

It was added to in the 19th century when a substantia­l hospital was built on the site, described as the most luxurious private psychiatri­c facility ever built in Britain.
