The England team received plaudits for their performances in this World Cup but it seems beating Croatia in the semi-final was just a bridge too far. Writing on Twitter, Prime Minister Theresa May said: “Wasn’t to be this time but it’s been a great journey that’s made the country proud. We’ll be flying the flag on Saturday.”
@Garylineker wrote: “Utterly choked, but this young side gave absolutely everything. It’s a huge step forward and they’ll only get better in the future. They can hold their heads high, they did our country proud. Congratulations to Croatia.”
