- By GARY HEATLY

Scotland’s Women’siccworld T20 cricket dreams came to an end yesterday despite a spirited showing in the semi-finals of the qualifying event in the Netherlands.

Bangladesh won the last four clash in Amstelveen meaning that they will join Ireland in progressing to the showpiece event in the West Indies later this year.

Kathryn Bryce’s Scotland side have certainly improved markedly over the last 12 months and defeated Uganda and Thailand in the group stages here, but chasing Bangladesh’s 125-6 was beyond them.

Bryce won the toss and decide to bowl, the Bangladesh openers getting their side off to a good start before Scotland took two wickets in quick time.

Good work from Laura Grant on the boundary caused the batters bother in the seventh over, Shamima Sultana run out for 22. And in the next over Priyanaz Chatterji had Ayasha Rahman caught behind by Sarah Bryce for 20 to leave the opposition on 52-2. Abtaha Maqsood then claimed wicket number three and when Chatterji got her second scalp Bangladesh were 62-4.

Nigar Sultana hit 31 not out from 36 balls to rebuild the innings and although further wickets came from Kathryn Bryce and Mcgill, the Bangladesh total looked quite daunting.

Sarah Bryce and Rachel Scholes opened the batting for Scotland, but it was the latter who fell first in the fourth over when she was caught behind by Sultana off the bowling of Fahima Khatun for four.

Bryce and her sister Kathryn then put on 43 runs for the second wicket before the former was out for 31 off 44 balls in the 13th over. Becky Glen then went for five LBW and Scotland had a mountain to climb.

Skipper Bryce went next for 21 and with that went any hope the Scots had, eventually finishing on 76-7 to lose by 49 runs.
