Nursing exodus

-

PRO-EU campaigners have warned of an exodus of nurses and midwives as official figures revealed that net migration from the EU to the UK has fallen to its lowest level in nearly five years.

Is there now emigration of EU workers such as nurses back to their homes or elsewhere in the EU27 because of Brexit or because the financial situation has improved in their own countries? I am guessing that the majority of professionally trained EU migrants to UK came here because of the prospects of jobs with better wages than they could get at home if they could get a job.

Alan Rodger Does no one else find it immoral that the fifth largest economy in the world has to relay on migrants to keep its health sector running? I firmly believe that we should be training more medical staff than we need so we can provide a service to developing countries whose need appears to be greater than ours.

Growing your own is promulgated as a good thing, so why is not training your own health professionals?

Freewheel Once people became nurses to look after the sick and infirm; nowadays they are expected to be an IT specialist. Data is worth more to the government than looking after people just ask the SNP. Whoever was in charge of the health service at Holyrood seven-plus years ago is at fault for not planning to train up more locals. It really is that simple, the financial decision was made that it is cheaper to bring in EU nationals rather than train locals. Sad, really.

Gavin Beatty no collusion – not that there was no interference. Very carefully worded denial.

Michael Kampff

Both the CIA and the FBI are heavily armed internal armies within the US. Their chief has maligned them in front of the entire world, so how will they react?

The Ayrshire bard

I never thought that I would see a US president kow-tow and toady up to the Russians. Can you imagine the furore if a British PM sided with a foreign country who were being accused by our secret service of interference in our general election?
