Scots on the up thanks to Dark treble

- By CRAIG MADDEN

A hat-trick by Dundee Wanderers’ Emily Dark was the catalyst for Scotland’s 6-0 thumping of Lithuania in their final pool match at the European Youth Championships II in the Czech Republic yesterday.

The Scots topped their pool with a perfect record and a win in tomorrow’s promotion semi-final would move them into the U18 elite level in Europe.

The Scots settled their nerves with an early goal when Watsonians’ Georgia Jones found the corner of the net.

Three goals in the second quarter killed the game, with Grove Menzieshill’s Georgia Smith from open play, followed by a direct penalty corner strike by Dark and another set-piece conversion by Jennifer Walls opening up a comfortable 4-0 lead at the interval.

A Dark double in the last couple of minutes put a gloss on the final score.

Meanwhile, in Antwerp, Great Britain men’s under-23 side continuedtheir unbeaten run in the six nations tournament with a 3-2 win over the Netherlands. Grove Menzieshill’s Cameron Golden was again on target with two penalty corner strikes.
