Seller shocked after pound note goes for £1,700
A seller was left speechless after their rare pound note sold for more than £1,000.
The rare Caledonian Banking Company Limited £1 note, which dates back to 1876, sold for a whopping £1,700 at Mctear’s Auctioneers in Glasgow.
The note included the handwritten signatures of the accountant and manager, which increased its value. Sarah Cotter, head of coins at Mctear’s, said: “Our experience tells us that lots of old coins and banknotes are hidden at the back of drawers and cupboards so we always encourage people to have a quick look.”
