Gag the caddies!

-

Further to Allan Massie’s excellent article about slow golf play (The Scotsman, 21 July), I have a suggestion. Change the rules of golf to prohibit caddies from standing on the green and from giving advice about the line of a putt.

Any golfer, professional or amateur, who needs advice about the line of a putt should not be playing golf.

Not only would this speed up play but it would improve the condition of the greens.

Incidentally, isn’t it time the use of anything but a putter on the green was banned? What if we all took a wedge?
