Family get £247k in asbestos case

A family have been awarded almost £250,000 after their mother died from second-hand exposure to asbestos more than 40 years ago.

Adrienne Sweeney contracted mesothelio­ma after coming into contact with dust while washinig her husband’s work overalls.

William Sweeney, from Paisley, worked at the Babcock & Wilcox boiler-making factory in Renfrew in the 1960s. Mrssweeney­diedin2015. The case is believed to be the first of its kind under Scots law.

Thompsons Solicitors confirmed in a statement the family had secured damages of £247,000.
