Halt signal

-

Passengers have been threatened with “massive” disruption by Scotrail workers, who are to be balloted for industrial action over pay disparity.

Seems to me that it’s easy for people to be negative about the situation looking from the outside in. I wonder how they would all feel if the guy sitting in the next desk to him/her was getting 50 per cent more overtime pay than him/her for doing the same job. Different story when it involves you personally.

The train unions seem to constantly like causing trouble so they can then demand it be nationalised, it’s about socialist politics. Watch for this going that way, it probably will.

If they don’t like the pay then get another job.

Oil is a bonus Is this the same RMT union that only a few days ago was castigating Scotrail for letting down passengers with delayed and cancelled services? Is this the same RMT who criticised fare increases as being unfair on passengers whilst failing to realise that any pay rise will by necessity mean fares rising again? Rank hypocrisy by RMT.

Aristotle

“Parity is paramount amongst staff ”. Except, of course, when maintaining differentials is paramount. We all know how this works, get an increase for one group on the grounds they are worth more, and then aboutface and demand “parity” for everybody else. Repeat ad infinitum.

Jock Tamson They don’t have to stay in post if they are very dissatisfied with their pay and conditions. What about leaving this job for a better one, more to your liking.

old clothes and porridge The Rail & Maritime Transport Union has already held 23 one-day rail strikes in 2018 on the rail network in England over driver-only trains. The RMT has balloted its members for a further 12 one-day strikes.

Samuelcoldstream Is this argument not adding to the driver-only trains position that Scotrail are trying to move to?

Art Fish A service disruption is not a threat any more. It is a daily routine.

Dani If train operating companies had sufficient establishments of staff there would be no need for rest day working to be undertaken by the staff. The staff should be recognised for their efforts in trying to achieve “the best railway Scotland has ever had”, as currently they have to give up their days off with their families to run trains.

Thankerton Berry In the future there will be driverless cars, lorries and trains; the clock is ticking.
