- By ANGUS HOWARTH

A prominent lawyer who was on the defence team of Serbian former strongman Slobodan Milosevic at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal has been shot and killed.

Dragoslav Ognjanovic was killed late on Saturday outside his home in the new part of the capital Belgrade.

The 56-year-old lawyer was part of the legal team that defended Milosevic at the UN tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands, when he was tried for war crimes in the Balkan wars of the 1990s.

His 26-year-old son was wounded in his right arm in the shooting, according to police.

Officers said they were searching “intensively” for the killer.

Milosevic died of a heart attack in 2006 before the end of the court proceedings.
