Abortion protests
Martin Conroy is being disingenuous when he denies that groups of people standing outside hospitals protesting against abortion are intimidating (Letters, 28 July).
Protest can be silent. Simply by being there, flourishing their placards, they do the very opposite of offering support to women, many of whom may be traumatised by being confronted with this display of religious coercion disguised as concern for their welfare.
I suggest that these people direct their prayers and protests against those who represent the real danger to children, both before and after birth. Children who are living in the many war zones around the world, who suffer psychological and physical trauma on a daily basis, and who see their parents die in front of them, have no choice but to endure.
Life can be a burden, rather than a blessing, for them.
