Workers unearth ancient network of wooden pipes

-

Workers have unearthed an underground network of rare wooden water pipes dating back more than 200 years.

Fifteen pieces of elm piping were discovered during an excavation at George Square in Edinburgh.

The wooden pipes were part of an underground network to supply drinking water and built in 1756. Archaeologists say the find – used to bring water to the centre of the town – are in very good condition.
