We’re not nuts

-

Carolyn Taylor validates the point I made in my original letter and holds the ridiculous stereotypical view that pro-lifers are religious nutters who scream and shout at women (Letters, 30 July).

Again, what we do is not a protest but a witness to the horror that is abortion. Ms Taylor believes our very presence is the opposite of offering help to women. I can assure her that many of the women who attend vigils are also counsellors with the Abortion Recovery Care and Helpline service and help vulnerable women daily. At my last vigil, one couple had to leave early and rush back to Edinburgh to help one such woman.

As for the suggestion that we direct prayers and protests “against those who represent a real danger to children”, perhaps Ms Taylor should know that 40-50 million abortions take place around the world each year according to the World Health Organisation. That’s 40-50 million children killed in what is supposed to be the safest place of all, their mother’s womb. It’s a shame Carolyn Taylor doesn’t regard this as a “real danger”.

Finally, for all those children suffering in war zones around the world, I can again assure Ms Taylor that we are praying for them and there are Catholic and non-religious aid agencies out there doing everything they can to help. MARTIN CONROY
